We don’t just feed appetites –

we feed souls

The Broken Rudder is the casual, laid back dining option at Hermosa Cove and the outdoor barbeque part of Christopher’s restaurant.

Here we believe food is more than a way to nourish our bodies — it’s a bridge between cultures and a way to explore the unfamiliar. Flavour is our way to share stories, teach traditions, and spark connection. The following dishes are an invitation to feed not just the body, but the heart and soul as you explore a few of the cultural dishes of Jamaica.

Barbeque Nights

... a true taste of Jamaican culture ...

At The Broken Rudder Bar & Grille, we bring the heart of Jamaican dining right to the water’s edge. Tucked into the beautiful beachfront of Hermosa Cove in Ocho Rios, our open-air setting pairs ocean breezes with the irresistible aromas of the grill. Every visit is a chance to savor island-inspired dishes, sip refreshing cocktails, and soak in the easy rhythm of life by the sea.

Our signature Outdoor Barbeque Night is where the magic truly happens. Under a starlit sky, we fire up the coals and fill the air with the scent of jerk chicken, smoky ribs, whole roasted pig, fresh-caught fish, and seasonal island vegetables—all prepared the traditional Jamaican way, over open flames. Reggae music drifts through the night as guests gather, laugh, and enjoy flavors as bold and vibrant as our island. It’s more than dinner—it’s a celebration of food, culture, and the joy of sharing it together.

Making a Reservation

The Broken Rudder primarily serves the guests at Hermosa Cove resort; however, on when we have room and availability we love to share our good food and beautiful atmosphere with locals and other visitors to the island. If you’d like to make a reservation, here’s what you need to know.

Call Ahead

The Broken Rudder is open for on site guests daily from noon to 5:00

Barbeque nights happen on Fridays when Hermosa Cove’s occupancy allows. Please call ahead to see when the next outdoor Jamaican barbeque will take place.

It’s important that you call ahead to guarantee a reservation and so that the security personnel at the resort entrance know you’re coming.

Please leave plenty of time to make a reservation as our staff dedicated to serving our resort guests will answer your phone call. If you’re unable to get through, please try again later; in fact, it’s best if you try to make your reservation a day or two prior.

We would also encourage you to read our FAQs to read about deposits, our reservation policy, and the prices for any special events.

Where We're Located

The Broken Rudder restaurant, part of Hermosa Cove resort, is located at the north side of Ocho Rios. Our entrance is at the end of Hermosa Lane, a small residential road. It can sometimes be difficult to find the turn, so we usually tell people it’s on the corner of the True Value hardware store.

Entering through Security

At the end of Hermosa Lane, you’ll be greeted by our security staff who are there to ensure the safety and privacy of our guests. The names of anyone with a reservation are given to the security guards; please be prepared to present identification.

Follow the Signs

Now take a peaceful journey down our driveway, following the signs to the parking lot, then to The Broken Rudder. Listen for the music to find your way.

Once you’ve reached the restaurant, our friendly staff will great and seat you. Now all you have to do is enjoy your meal!

Frequently Asked

Questions

If you have a question, it’s quite possible that you’re not the first person that’s asked. Below are some questions that guests regularly ask us. And of course, if you can’t find an answer to your question or need some more clarification – our friendly staff is just a phone call or email away.

Deposits and Prices

Well that really depends on the meal …

… all of which can be found in our online menus. Scroll back up to find our breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, and drink menus.

All prices are in United States Dollars …

… which might seem strange since we’re in Jamaica – but USD is an international standard that most people recognize and can compare to their own currency. So for the benefit of our guests, and to align ourselves with the rest of the Jamaican hospitality industry, we use USD as our standard currency.

Special requests and large groups …

… will require a deposit. This includes a $100 deposit for any private dining experiences in our gazebos or private second floor dining room. We also require a deposit of $100 for any groups of 4 people or more.

Catering events and groups of 8 or more people will require a deposit based on the needs of the group.

if you need to cancel …

… then you must notify us at least 24 hours in advance. A no-show or late arrival will result in a forfeit of your deposit.

If you make your reservation …

… then your deposit will be applied to your final bill.

Menus and Dietary Needs

Absolutely we do …

… our menus will denote which dishes are vegetarian or vegan by design. Ask your server if a dish can easily be made into a vegetarian or vegan dish.

We certainly do …

… and our menus will denote which dishes are gluten free, dairy free, and which dishes contain nuts. Please alert your server if your dietary needs are an allergy or a preference so that they can properly advise you.

We sure do …

… it contains coloring pages, activities, and a handful of dining options that are kid friendly.

Policies and Expectations

We want your apparel to be respectful of yourself and other guests …

… so we ask you to dress in a casual elegant style. Simply put, nothing too short or exposing for females. Males must wear closed-toe shoes (Crocs can be worn, but no flip-flops). No T-shirts, pants, or shorts must be worn at the waist.

No, please stay in the restaurant area …

… We want you to respect the guests staying at Hermosa Cove. Walking around the property would be like walking through someone’s backyard at another restaurant.

Please keep photographs to a minimum …

… We would love for you to share the beauty of Hermosa Cove with your friends and family; but an abundance of photos can be distracting to the other guests as well as an intrusion of their privacy.Â
